Reid on radio, denies Kolb trade report

Andy Reid was just playing with the possibilities when he talked about moving Todd Herremans to right tackle following the acquisition of guard Danny Watkins in the first round of the NFL draft last week.

That was what emerged from dogged questioning of Reid on Mike Missanelli's 97.5-FM radio show yesterday. Initially, when asked about moving the left guard, Reid said: "We do have some flexibility there," but when Missanelli pressed, wanting to know whether that indeed was the plan, Reid finally said, "That's probably not going to happen."

So Herremans, who joked on Twitter over the weekend that people were asking him what position he's going to play this season ("#swissarmylineman," he tweeted), can rest easy. Reid allowed that either incumbent Winston Justice or understudy King Dunlap probably will start at right tackle. Watkins has a good chance to start at right guard.

One factor in the matter might be that during the brief lockout thaw last week, the Eagles were able to get Justice in and assess his surgically repaired knee.

"I think he's good to go," Reid said.

Reid also denied a report from Sports Illustrated's Peter King that the Eagles have an offer of a 2012 first-round pick for quarterback Kevin Kolb. The denial wasn't surprising, since Reid subsequently explained that teams aren't allowed to discuss the terms of deals right now; earlier in the offseason, they were allowed to gauge interest in Kolb, but not to settle on terms. (So, if they do have such a deal, Reid would be inviting NFL discipline by confirming it.) At any rate, the matter is moot until the appeals court in St. Louis rules on whether to extend the stay of Judge Susan Richard Nelson's ruling that very briefly ended the lockout last week.

Missanelli was not successful in trying to pester Reid into acknowledging that the drafting of Nebraska kicker Alex Henery in the fourth round last weekend means David Akers' 12-year tenure has ended. Reid called Henery "a good insurance policy."

Not surprising, Reid demurred when asked about the possible pursuit of free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. *
