Here's a random collection of how some notable players in the city's history fared upon their returns to Philadelphia:

EAGLES

Reggie White

Eagles career: 1985-92.

First game back: With Green Bay, Sept. 9, 1997.

Registered a sack of Ty Detmer in his only appearance in Philadelphia as an opposing player. The Eagles won the game, 10-9, when Green Bay rookie kicker Ryan Longwell shanked a 28-yard field goal late in the fourth.

Brian Dawkins

Eagles career: 1996-08.

First game back: With Denver, Dec. 27, 2009.

Had a couple of misplays that led to points in the Broncos' 30-27 loss. Was cheered wildly by the Lincoln Financial Field crowd and afterward hailed as a "brother," "father figure" and "role model" by his former teammates.

SIXERS

Wilt Chamberlain

Sixers career: 1964-68.

First game back: With LA Lakers, Oct. 18, 1968.

Chamberlain had 15 points and 17 rebounds, but looked "heavy" and "out of shape," according to Sixers guard Hal Greer and was benched for most of the second half by Lakers coach Butch van Breda Kolff in the Sixers' 114-96 win.

Charles Barkley

Sixers career: 1984-92.

First game back: With Phoenix, March 28, 1993.

Left the Spectrum court to chants of "MVP, MVP" after scoring 35 points in a 10-point Suns win. The loss dropped the Sixers to 21-46.

Allen Iverson

Sixers career: 1996-06; 2009-10.

First game back: With Denver, March 19, 2008.

After kissing the center-court logo at the Wachovia Center, Iverson went out and scored 32 points in the Nuggets' 115-113 loss. Iverson would return again to the Sixers, playing 25 games for the club in 2009-10.

PHILLIES

Rich Ashburn

Phillies career: 1948-59.

First game back: With Chicago Cubs, May 19, 1960.

Went 2-for-5 with a triple off former teammate Robin Roberts and a game-winning RBI groundout that scored Don Zimmer in the Cubs' 4-3 win.

Pat Burrell

Phillies career: 200-08.

First game back: With San Francisco, Aug. 17, 2010.

Hit a two-run homer off Roy Oswalt in his first at-bat at Citizens Bank Park since leading the 2008 championship parade on a horse-drawn carriage. The Giants lost the game, 9-3.

Brett Myers

Phillies career: 2002-09.

First game back: With Houston, Aug. 23, 2010.

Pitched seven strong innings and earned the victory as Houston won 3-2. The highlight (or lowlight) was Myers sticking his tongue out at former teammate Jayson Werth, who was taking a lead off second base. Werth bowed his head to supress laughter and was picked off by Houston catcher Humberto Quintero.

FLYERS

Ron Hextall

Flyers career: 1986-92; 1994-99.

First game back: With Quebec, Dec. 3, 1992.

The jeers directed at Hextall reached a fever pitch when Flyers forward Claude Boivin scored in overtime of the Flyers' 3-2 win. There was plenty of hitting and yapping from both sides, including late in the second period when Flyers rookie Ryan McGill squirted water as Hextall passed by the bench during a stoppage. "I was trying to get under his skin," McGill said. "I guess he was thirsty."

Eric Lindros

Flyers career: 1992-00.

First game back: With NY Rangers, Jan. 12, 2002.

Played a relatively timid 21 minutes, 18 seconds and did not register a point in the Rangers' 4-2 loss. He was booed each time he touched the puck. It was a memorable day at the sports complex with an Eagles home playoff win over Tampa Bay immediately following the Flyers-Rangers game.
