'Nova ranked 6th; Owls 22nd

Villanova is ranked sixth and Temple is ranked 22nd in the preseason Associated Press college basketball poll released today.

Villanova, which finished last season ranked ninth, picked up 1,198 points, based on 25 points for a first-place vote and one point for a 25th-place vote. The poll is based on voting by 65 national media members.

Temple, which finished 12th in the final poll last season, received 265 points. No other Philadelphia team received any points.

Defending national champion Duke is the preseason No. 1 team, with 1,613 points. The Blue Devils received 55 first-place votes. Michigan State is second (1,558 points, eight first-place votes) is second, followed by Kansas State (1,414 points, two first-place votes), Ohio State (1,368 points) and Pittsburgh (1,310).

The rest of the top 10 are: Villanova, Kansas, North Carolina, Florida and Syracuse.
