Villanova will name Pavilion for benefactor Finneran
Villanova's announced Thursday that when the Pavilion completes renovations, the building will be named for William B. Finneran. No surprise, since Finneran, Villanova Class of '63, donated $22.6 million to the effort in April.

"Naming the Pavilion for Bill honors his enthusiasm for - and unwavering dedication to - not only the university's future, but also the future of Villanova's athletics program," the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, Villanova's president, said in a statement. "As Villanova's national prominence continues to rise, it is time for the Pavilion to undergo a significant renovation that, when finished, will more closely represent the tradition of excellence of Villanova athletics. It is perfectly fitting for the Pavilion to bear Bill's name since he was integral to making its transformation possible."
The Pavilion has gone without another name since 1997, when Villanova took down the name of John du Pont after he was convicted of murdering former Olympic wrestling great Dave Schultz.
"I am grateful for the opportunities that were given to me during my time at Villanova, and I am pleased to give back in this way to a place that had such a profound impact on my life," Finneran said in a statement.
Finneran, who lives in Palm Beach, Fla., is a cofounder of EXOP Capital, LLC, described as a long/short hedge fund firm based in New York. He also is chairman of Edison Control Corp. and Con Forms Industries, which designs, manufactures, and distributes concrete pumping systems and accessories.
