Kyle Dobbins among three more football commitments for Temple

Temple received three more football commitments, including All-South Jersey running back Kyle Dobbins of St. Augustine Prep. The Owls have now had 10 commitments in the last 10 days.

Kyle Dobbins, an Inquirer first-team all-South Jersey running back from St. Augustine, has made an oral commitment to attend Temple.

Dobbins was among three more players to commit on Tuesday to Temple. Joining him are Trad Beatty, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound quarterback from Ben Lippen High in Columbia, South Carolina and Jayde Pierre, a 6-2, 325-pound defensive tackle from Dominion High in Sterling, Virginia.

All three announced their choice on Twitter.

In addition, running back Kyle Wright,  a teammate of Beatty, visited Temple on Tuesday, but did not commit, according to a person familiar with the Owls recruiting.

Dobbins (5-10, 195) rushed for 1,282 yards (7.7 average) and 17 touchdowns as a junior. He said that Rutgers, North Carolina and North Carolina State were among the schools he was considering.

"Temple is close to home, I will get a great education, it's a great football team with great people to be around," Dobbins said on Tuesday in a phone interview.

Dobbins attended Temple's spring game and said he had long been considering the Owls.

Pierre said he had never visited Temple until Tuesday, but received such a favorable impression that he committed.

"It was always a school I was eyeballing," he said in a phone interview. "After today I met all the coached and loved the atmosphere, the program they are building and have built and I fell in love today and decided to commit."

Pierre added that he had offers from Arizona, Maryland and Virginia.

A person familiar with Temple's recruiting said that Beatty impressed the Temple staff with a strong arm and his dual-threat capability, having run a 4.65 40-yard dash.

Temple now has 11 commitments for the class of 2018, with 10 of them coming in the last 10 days.
