National: Marion Grice scored four touchdowns, two in the fourth quarter, as Arizona State beat visiting Wisconsin, 34-32.

Local: West Chester's Rondell White had 338 all-purpose yards, 5 off his career-high, and also threw for a score in a 56-41 win at Gannon. His 245 rushing yards were a career-best. The Golden Rams are 2-0 for the first time in a decade.

Fordham 30, Temple 29

Maybe somebody should just give the Rams the Mayor's Cup.

One week after beating Villanova in the Bronx, they scored on a 29-yard pass from Michael Nebrich to Sam Ajala with 4 seconds left at the Linc. Which means the city's three teams are still looking for their first win. Penn finally opens this week against Lafayette at home.

Temple, under first-year coach Matt Rhule, is 0-3 for the first time since 2007.

It was Fordham's (3-0) first win over an FBS opponent since it reinstated the program in 1970.

And why does this kind of stuff always seem to happen to the Owls? It was eerily similar to the 30-28 loss at Buffalo in 2008.

The Owls trailed by 13 in the third quarter. But junior Connor Reilly, who didn't start after injuring his knee last week against Houston, came in at quarterback and led them to TDs on his first three drives, throwing for two scores and running for another.

It wasn't enough.

Senior Clinton Granger (rushing TD, two turnovers) got the call but was relieved by true freshman P.J. Walker, who took eight snaps.

The Owls went ahead by six with 4:34 showing on a 7-yard pass to former QB Chris Coyer. The Rams then drove 71 yards in 13 plays. Temple challenged the decisive play, claiming Ajala had stepped out of bounds before making his catch, but officials ruled he was forced out.

Nebrich, who was recruited by Temple and ended up at Connecticut before transferring, threw for 320 yards. South Jersey's Carlton Koonce, who also drew interest from North Broad Street, rushed for 168.

The Owls now have a bye before heading to independent Idaho, which is also 0-3 and at Washington State this week.

As a wise man once screamed, they were who we thought they were.

That goes for Alabama, and Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, the losing quarterback Saturday in College Station.

The Crimson Tide did what most folks figured they might, which is get revenge for last November's home loss to the first freshman Heisman Trophy winner.

The visitors, gunning for a third consecutive title and fourth in 5 years, were down 14 after 7 1/2 minutes. They scored the next 35. But Manziel is Johnny Football for a reason. He got his team to within seven twice in the fourth quarter, the last with 15 seconds left. The 42 points were the most scored against Nick Saban since he moved to Tuscaloosa. And A&M's 628 yards were the most ever against Alabama. But the Aggies still lost, which is what counts.

And you thought defense was what set the SEC apart.

Manziel completed 28 of 39 for five scores, with two picks. AJ McCarron passed for four TDs. Bama runners averaged over 6 yards a carry, A&M's 5. Each team had 31 first downs. So which did you prefer, this or that 9-6 overtimer 2 years ago against LSU?

Eric LeGrand became the first Rutgers player to have his jersey (No. 52) retired, 3 years after the former defensive tackle was paralyzed in a game against Army. He just started working as an analyst on the team's radio broadcats.

In a passionate, 10-minute halftime ceremony, coach Kyle Flood gave LeGrand a sword with the word "Believe" inscribed on it.

UCLA wore No. 36 patches on its jerseys in memory of receiver Nick Pasquale, who was killed last week when struck by a vehicle while walking in his hometown of San Clemente. Nebraska also wore No. 36 decals on its helmets.

Texas is 1-2 for the first time since Mack Brown's first season in Austin, 1998. For the eighth time in 13 games, an opposing back set a career-high for rushing yards against the Longhorns. Which means if something doesn't change, this could be Brown's last season.

Buffalo (1-2) beat Stony Brook (1-1), 26-23, in five OTs. Stony Brook is at Villanova this week.

*  Mississippi is 3-0 for the first time since 1989.

*  Nebraska suffered its biggest blown lead at home since 1920 and its worst non-conference home loss since 1961. The Cornhuskers have lost by double-digits in six of their last 15 games against BCS-level opponents.

*  Oklahoma junior Blake Bell, in his first start after losing the job to a freshman, threw for 413 yards and four TDs in a 51-20 win over Tulsa. The Sooners' next game is Sept 28 at Notre Dame.

*  Ohio State's Kenny Guiton, in his first start for the injured Braxton Miller, threw for four TDs and had 388 all-purpose yards.

*  Arizona State is now 9-0 vs. the Big Ten at home.

*  Marcus Mariota became the first Oregon QB to throw for 400 yards since 2005.

*  Washington won a road game outside the Pac 12 for the first time in six seasons.
