Temple's Peddy named A-10 player of year

TEMPLE SENIOR Shey Peddy was named the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Year. Peddy is the first student-athlete to garner dual honors since Temple's Candice Dupree, who received the same two awards in 2005 and 2006. The league's 14 head coaches selected Peddy, who is now a two-time A-10 First Team honoree.

Peddy is the first student-athlete to garner dual honors since Temple's Candice Dupree, who received the same two awards in 2005 and 2006. The league's 14 head coaches selected Peddy, who is now a two-time A-10 First Team honoree.

Temple teammate Kristen McCarthy was named to the A-10 Second Team for the second straight year.

Peddy, the Owls' leading scorer, was also named the United States Basketball Writers Association's (USBWA) National Player of the Week this season. She has 1,794 career points, including 940 at Temple.

At Williamsburg, Va., Elena Delle Donne had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 8 Delaware to a 79-53 victory over William and Mary. Danielle Parker and Lauren Carra each added 14 points as the Blue Hens (27-1, 18-0 Colonial Athletic Association) became the first team to finish undefeated in the conference since Old Dominion in 2001-02.

* Kamile Nacickaite scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures as Drexel downed visiting VCU, 73-63, in another CAA game. Fiona Flanagan added 16 points off the bench for the Dragons (16-12, 12-6). Courtney Hurt had 20 points for the Rams (16-13, 9-9).
