Temple women lose on road to UCLA

Temple went toe-to-toe with UCLA's 13th-ranked women's team yesterday, but cold shooting late in the second half doomed the Owls to a 71-61 defeat in Los Angeles.

Kristen McCarthy led all scorers with 22 points and also had nine rebounds, but UCLA (5-0) broke a 52-52 tie with a 17-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Markel Walker and Darxia Morris each scored 15 points for UCLA, while BJ Williams had 12 for the Owls (2-4).

In other games:

* At La Salle, even with Elena Delle Donne playing only 6 minutes due to illness, Delaware (5-0) was too much for the Explorers (2-4), scoring a 59-48 win. Danielle Parker had her third double-double of the season for the Blue Hens with 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Laura Carra added 14. La Salle was led by Ashley Gale's 17 points and Nadia Duncan's 13.

* At Villanova, Corielle Yarde scored 26 points to lead Marist (4-1) to a 71-60 victory over the Wildcats (4-3). Emily Suhey led Villanova with 15 points, while Laura Sweeney scored 11. Marist converted 22 of 27 free-throw attempts, while Villanova went to the line just three times. The Wildcats were whistled for twice as many fouls (24) as the Red Foxes (12).
