Will Hackenberg enter draft? He's not saying

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Whether Christian Hackenberg has already made up his mind or is still weighing his options, he doesn't want to talk to about it.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Whether Christian Hackenberg has already made up his mind or is still weighing his options, he doesn't want to talk to about it.

If he decides to skip out on his senior season and declare for the NFL draft, Penn State's matchup with Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl will be the quarterback's last game donning blue and white.

"I'm just focused on Georgia right now," Hackenberg said Friday. "That's been my focus, and enjoying everything that comes with this trip and being on this team, and just taking it one day at a time."

The game Saturday will mark Hackenberg's first since 2013 without John Donovan as the offensive coordinator. With newly-hired offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead looking on, quarterbacks coach Ricky Rahne will call the plays.

Rahne and Hackenberg's relationship hasn't changed much since Rahne moved into the interim role.

Preparing for the bowl game, "Hack looked at a couple of plays here and there that I liked and Hack didn't feel real comfortable with, and those are out because obviously he's going to be the guy out on the field. It doesn't matter if I like them or not," Rahne said. "But that's how a normal week goes, so I wouldn't say that has changed in the least."

"I think for him, it's been a pretty flawless transition," Hackenberg said of Rahne . "For us, it's just a guy that we know really well, a guy who we work with every day as a unit, just calling plays. It's a different voice, but it's a lot of the same messages."

The Nittany Lions will be up against the nation's top-ranked pass defense in the Bulldogs, a test Hackenberg welcomes.

"They're one of the most fundamentally sound teams that I've ever seen on tape," Hackenberg said. "I think up front, they're very similar to Ohio State, Michigan State, who we've seen. They're big, long, can run. They're very physical, so I think it's going to be a great challenge for us and we're really excited about it as an offense."

As for Hackenberg's future and that of fellow junior Austin Johnson, coach James Franklin said no official decisions would be made until after Saturday.

"After the game is over, when the time is right for each individual, we'll make some decisions," Franklin said, "whether it's moving forward with Penn State or whether it may be moving on."

Notes

"Our guys are fresh, they're ready to go, they're healthier than they've been in a long time," Franklin said. . . . Defensive tackle Anthony Zettel is one of 17 seniors suiting up as a Nittany Lion for the last time. "I think just being able to get guys together for one last game as the 2015 defense and coaches is special," he said. "You put in so much time during the offseason, throughout the year, and you become brothers, family, going through adversity and stuff."
