College Basketball: Drexel women's win is No.200 for Dillon

With one of their best defensive efforts of the season, the Drexel women gave Denise Dillon her 200th career coaching victory on Sunday.

The Dragons never trailed as they defeated Miami of Ohio, 71-54, in the Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. They face the host Cavaliers at 7 p.m. Monday.

"This is the sort of milestone that I'm excited to share with past and current players who have come through our program," said Dillon, who has been Drexel's head coach since 2003. "I'm also proud to share these wins with Amy Mallon, my associate head coach, who has been here since the beginning."

Rachel Pearson reached a career high when she scored 25 points for the Dragons (6-4). Drexel kept Miami (2-8) off the scoreboard for the first 3 minutes, 9 seconds.

Dillon, 41, is Drexel's all-time leader in Division I victories. A star player at Villanova and Cardinal O'Hara, she was inducted into the Philadelphia Big Five Hall of Fame in 2004.

La Salle 73, Fairfield 59 - The Explorers scored 50 second-half points in a win over the visiting Stags (2-9).

Willingboro's Micahya Owens scored 15 of her team-high 17 points and Khristin Lee netted all 10 of hers after the break for La Salle (8-4). Alicia Cropper collected 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Quinnipiac 69, St. Joseph's 67 - Natasha Cloud scored a game-high 17 points and dished out 13 assists, but her efforts and a late rally weren't enough for the host Hawks (3-8) against the Bobcats (10-2) in the Hawk Classic semifinals.

At 2 p.m. Monday, the Hawks face Cal State Northridge (9-4), which fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 73-64.

Lycoming 57, Delaware Valley 47 - Brenna Coll recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds, but the Aggies (4-8) dropped a nonconference game to the Warriors (9-1) in Williamsport, Pa.

Men

Oswego State 82, Haverford 43 -

In Daytona Beach, Fla., the Fords (3-6) lost their Land of Magic Classic opener to the Lakers (6-2). Gibby Graves led Haverford with 11 points.
