Widener and Ursinus open football season with victories

The senior all-American tallied seven receptions for 136 yards and now has 193 catches, eclipsing the mark of 188 held by Tyreak Saviour.

Stacey Sunnerville, Jamal Goodman, and Sean Titus all had interceptions in the first 30 minutes.

Sunnerville and Brandon Harper (Highland) had seven tackles apiece.

Pride quarterback Seth Klein completed 15 of 26 passes for 260 yards.

Billy McCarty (Williamstown) completed 20 of 38 passes for 133 yards, and Darren Dungee had eight tackles for the Profs (0-1).

Ursinus 47, College of New Jersey 7 - The Bears scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to break open a tight game and beat the host Lions in their opener.

Ursinus converted two defensive touchdowns, while also scoring on a safety. The Bears held the Lions to just 177 yards of total offense, with 99 coming in the first half. The Bears forced four turnovers, picking off three passes, with two of them returned for scores.

Ursinus receiver Darius Jones (Haddon Heights) caught seven passes for 80 yards and a TD.

Defensive end Steve Ambs (Pottsgrove) had 14 stops, while defensive backs Tim Rafter (St. Joseph's Prep) and Greg DiSanto (Archbishop Carroll) returned interceptions for touchdowns.

Pittsburgh 30, Boston College 20 - James Conner ran for 214 yards and a touchdown to lead the visiting Panthers (2-0, 1-0) over the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) in the first Atlantic Coast Conference matchup between the former Big East foes.

Thursday's game

Lincoln 30, Cheney 18 - The host Lions opened the season with a victory over the rival Wolves.

Lincoln wide receiver Akeem Jordan tallied 156 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

The Lions forced two interceptions in the final five minutes of the game to seal the win, including a pick by Jacob Lockley (Mastbaum).
