Drexel men's basketball coach Bruiser Flint has agreed to a multiyear contract extension following the most successful of his 11 seasons guiding the Dragons.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Flint was unavailable for comment.

Drexel set a single-season school record for wins during a 29-7 season. The Dragons also won two NIT games, the first two postseason wins in Flint's tenure at Drexel.

Included this year was a 19-game winning streak that gained Drexel national attention.

The streak was snapped in a 59-56 loss to Virginia Commonwealth in the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

VCU earned the league's automatic NCAA tournament bid and Drexel had several national pundits suggesting it deserved an at-large NCAA berth.

The NCAA, however, declined to invite the Dragons, citing their weak strength of schedule.

Flint was named the CAA coach of the year for the fourth time at Drexel. His overall coaching record, which includes five seasons at Massachusetts, is 285-213. At Drexel, Flint is 199-141.

"Bruiser has done an outstanding job of making Drexel one of the top programs in the CAA over the last 11 years," said athletics director Eric Zillmer in a statement released by the school. "We look forward to him continuing to lead the Dragons in the years to come."

Drexel should be a major contender next season in the CAA. The Dragons lose just one player, albeit an important contributor, 6-foot-5 forward Samme Givens, who recorded more than 1,000 points and rebounds.

A Philadelphia native, Flint is a graduate of Episcopal Academy and St. Joseph's University.
