Temple offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler has emerged as a leading candidate at Akron, according to reports.

Loeffler is a native of Barberton, Ohio, and is said to have impressed the search committee.

He just completed his first season at Temple, after serving as the quarterbacks coach at Florida, where he worked with Owls head coach Steve Adazzio.

Loeffler also has been the quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan after his playing career for the Wolverines.

Akron is looking to replace Rob Ianello, who was fired after going 2-22 and 1-15 in the MAC in two seasons.

Former Akron offensive coordinator Paul Winters was thought to be the top choice but withdrew from consideration after signing an extension yesterday to remain at Wayne State through 2016.
