In Hartford, Conn., Darius Johnson-Odom scored nine of his 17 points in overtime Thursday night to lead Marquette to a 74-67 victory over No. 14 Connecticut, which played without coach Jim Calhoun on the bench.

Jimmy Butler added 16 points for the Golden Eagles (17-11, 8-7 Big East), who tied the game at 59 with 5.3 seconds left on a drive by Johnson-Odom.

Kemba Walker led the Huskies (20-7, 8-7) with 27 points, but the junior guard missed four shots and committed one turnover in the extra period.

It was the Huskies' first game since the NCAA revealed its sanctions against the program over recruiting violations. Among the penalties was a suspension of Calhoun for next season's first three Big East games. Calhoun was cited for failing to monitor and promote an atmosphere of compliance within his program.

Calhoun left the team Wednesday to be with his family in New Hampshire following the death of his sister-in-law on Monday.

Pittsburgh 71, West Virginia 58 - In the "Backyard Brawl" between two schools 70 miles apart, Lamar Patterson scored the first five points of the second half in sparking a decisive run that led the fourth-ranked Panthers (25-3, 13-2 Big East) over the Mountaineers (17-10, 8-7) in Pittsburgh.

Nasir Robinson scored 15 to help Pitt take another step toward clinching the conference title. Patterson finished with a career-best 11 points, while enjoying extra playing time due to an injury to Talib Zanna and after Gilbert Brown ran into foul trouble late in the first half.

Brad Wanamaker had a balanced game for the Panthers with 11 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Pitt bounced back from a 60-59 loss at St. John's last weekend and moved two wins ahead of second-place Notre Dame.

Casey Mitchell scored 22 for the Mountaineers, who failed to build off the momentum of their 72-58 win over the Fighting Irish last weekend. West Virginia has dropped six of its past 11 after opening the season 12-4.

Prior to the game, Pitt announced that Zanna will miss between three and six weeks after breaking his right thumb. He'll have surgery on Friday. It's unclear how Zanna was hurt, though it did not happen in practice.

Florida 71, Georgia 62 - Kenny Boynton scored 18 points, half of them coming on three consecutive three-pointers that changed the game as the No. 13 Gators (22-5, 11-2 SEC) topped the Bulldogs (18-9, 7-6) in Gainesville, Fla.

Erving Walker added 15 points, and Chandler Parsons chipped in 16 in his return from a thigh injury.

Travis Leslie led the Bulldogs with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Women

Drexel 61, Northeastern 53 -

Kamile Nacickaite scored her 1,000th career point to lead the Dragons with 15 in a win over the Huskies in Boston.

Drexel (16-11, 8-8 CAA) had to overcome 20 turnovers in the game and hold off a late rally by Northeastern (8-19, 3-13) for the victory.

Jasmina Rosseel and Tyler Hale added 12 points apiece for the Dragons.

Leak ends game. Fourth-ranked Tennessee (27-2, 15-0 SEC) was awarded a 66-39 victory at Mississippi (10-17, 3-12) when strong storms sent water spilling onto the floor with 5 minutes, 24 seconds left at the Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford, Miss.

Players were running downcourt on a fastbreak when Mississippi's Kenyotta Jenkins crashed to the floor in the puddle of the water and play was halted. The delay lasted about 20 minutes before the game was canceled.

Brian Russell, an assistant director of event operations at Ole Miss, said high winds during the storms caused rain to fly sideways through air vents.

Glory Johnson led the Lady Vols with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Valencia McFarland had 14 points for the Rebels.
