Nits' QB situation undecided

So who is going to get the call as Penn State's starting quarterback heading into Saturday afternoon's potentially historic home game against Northwestern, with Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno going for his 400th career victory?

Either true freshman Rob Bolden or redshirt sophomore Matt McGloin is going to take the snap for Penn State's first possession, but that only means he's the starter. It doesn't necessarily mean he's No. 1 and the other guy is No. 2.

"I think we'll let them compete and decide at the end of the week who's going to start," Paterno said today during his weekly teleconference with the media. "But I would imagine we maybe will have to rethink about only playing one kid. Maybe we'll play both."

Bolden started Penn State's first seven games, but suffered a concussion in the second quarter of the Oct. 23 game at Minnesota. McGloin came in and threw two touchdown passes to help the Nits to a 33-21 victory, then made his first career start Saturday night against Michigan and was 17-for-28 for 250 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for a TD as Penn State won again, 41-31. *
