Dawejko to take on Williams in battle of Philly heavyweights
Joey Dawejko and David Williams will fight before main event of WBO light-heavyweight champ Sergey Kovalev vs. Blake Caparello.
NORTHEAST Philly heavyweight Joey Dawejko fights fellow Philadelphian David Williams in an eight-round bout tomorrow night at Revel Casino in Atlantic City.
The Philly-centric fight is part of the undercard for Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev's WBO light-heavyweight title defense against Blake Caparello.
The 24-year-old Dawejko (10-3-2, 2 knockouts) is looking for his third consecutive victory. He last defeated Mark Rideout, another local, by unanimous decision on May 16 at South Philly's 2300 Arena. Williams, 37, enters with a record of 7-8-2 after having lost eight of his last 12 fights.
In the main event, which will be featured on HBO's "Boxing After Dark," Kovalev (24-0-1, 22 KOs) looks to retain his title and remain undefeated. The 31-year-old from Russia is the heavy favorite against Caparello (19-0-1, 6 KOs), a 27-year-old southpaw from Australia.
Kovalev vs. Caparello is set to start at 9:45 p.m. Kovalev has been mentioned as a potential future opponent for IBF and WBA light-heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins.
