Thrash, Mornhinweg, Romo's Facebok

As you read this, I am getting ready for a sports bloggers conference in NYC.

But, as everyone who attends should already know, the No. 1 rule in blogging is to, well, blog.

So I didn't want to leave you without some links as you lounge around on Saturday. If these are outdated, I apologize. I wrote the post Friday evening and scheduled it to go live in the a.m.

Yes, we do have the capabilities to do that. I'm sure you're all very impressed.

Anyway...

** The Redskins have released former Eagles receiver James Thrash after he failed a physical. The 'Skins said they hope Thrash will continue to be a part of the organization in some form. His best season with the Birds came in 2001 when Thrash caught 63 balls for 833 yards and eight touchdowns. Nowadays, his name only comes up when someone is defending Donovan McNabb and pointing out the receivers he's had to work with. Which is generally a pretty fair argument, and one that's been rehashed over and over and over again in this town.

** Thrash is one of several ex-Eagles who was released. The Jaguars released cornerback Will James, who played for the Birds in 2006 and 2007.

** And one more. The Steelers have cut ties with punter Dirk Johnson.

** I enjoyed this spoof of what Tony Romo's Facebook page might look like. Jessica Simpson writing on his wall: "You don't think I'm fat do you?!? Why would TMZ.com say you said that? Do you love me? I love you! I want the whole world to know!!"

** Speaking of spoofs, a funny one on Sheldon Brown skipping OTAs to volunteer at a soup kitchen from Philly Gameday. I especially like the photo.

** And finally, one I've been meaning to get to for awhile now. The Sporting News ranked the top 20 offensive coordinators, and Marty Mornhinweg made the list at No. 15:

He runs a system with West Coast principles and plays. Traditionally, it's a 65/35 pass/run ratio, but the short passing game uses the backs, tight ends and receivers as a run substitute. QB Donovan McNabb must process a lot of information and throw quickly. The Eagles have upgraded the line and receiving corps, so look for them to rely a little less on RB Brian Westbrook.
