Flyers' lineup set for rookie game with Islanders

Highly touted right winger Travis Konecny will be on a line with a familiar face when the Flyers' rookies face the Islanders' prospects Wednesday night in Long Island.

Konecny, 19, will be on a unit with center Connor Bunnaman and left winger Anthony Salinitri. The latter was his linemate in Sarnia in the Ontario Hockey League last season.

In June, Bunnaman (16 goals in OHL last year) was drafted by the Flyers in the fourth round, while Salinitri was selected in the sixth round after collecting 17 goals for Sarnia.

Konecny was traded from Ottawa to Sarnia during the season.

"I'm pretty excited," Salinitri said after Wednesday's morning skate in Voorhees. "I'm playing alongside Trav, and we have some chemistry already from Sarnia, so I'm looking forward to it. It's exciting to put on the Flyers jersey for the first time."

Salinitri said Konecny "plays fast, similar to me. We try to use our speed and just find each other."

As for the rest of camp, Salinitri said he wanted to "turn some heads. There's going to be a lot of (Flyers executives) watching, and I just want to prove to myself that I can compete with all these guys."

Here are the Flyers' other tentative lines for Wednesday night: Sam Dove-McFalls centering Carsen Twarynski and Steven Swaveley of Reading; Radel Fazleev centering Taylor Leier and Roman Lyubimov; and Danick Martel centering Tyrell Goulbourne and Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

Phil Myers, the promising 6-foot-5 defenseman who had hip surgery in June, will sit out Wednesday's game as a precaution. "He could play tonight, but he's not going to," GM Ron Hextall said.

Hextall said Leier would replace Pascal Laberge, who has an unspecified minor injury.  Laberge was a second-round pick in June.

Leier, 22, had 20 goals for the AHL's Phantoms last season.

Wednesday's expected pairings: Ivan Provorov and camp invitee Brennan McFadden; Sam Morin and Travis Sanheim; and Garrett McFadden and Reece Willcox.

Goalies Alex Lyon, who starred at Yale and signed as a free agent, and Carter Hart figure to split the goaltending duties. Hart was one of the Flyers' second-round picks in June.

For those wondering, the game will not be streamed on either teams' websites.

The Flyers' veteran camp starts Friday at 9:45 a.m. at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. It is free and open to the public.

Hextall said some of the Flyers' World Cup players will start filtering into camp next week.
