The Phillies have agreed to terms with outfielder Chris Coghlan, who won the World Series last season with the Cubs, to a minor-league contract, according to a report by MLB.com.

Coghlan, 31, was invited to spring training and has a good chance to break camp on the team's bench. The Phillies, who will open spring training Feb. 13, are thin on outfield depth. Coghlan could join Aaron Altherr as the team's reserve outfielders behind starters Odubel Herrera, Howie Kendrick, and Michael Saunders. Coghlan can play all three outfield positions and has experience in the infield.

He rejoined the Cubs last June after being traded in the offseason to Oakland. Coghlan had spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Cubs. The lefthanded hitter batted .252 with a .391 on-base percentage in 103 at-bats with the Cubs last season. Coghlan was the rookie of the year with the Marlins in 2009, narrowly beating Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ.
