NFL: RG3 not cleared to play after all

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will miss Saturday's exhibition game at Baltimore because of a concussion, reversing an earlier decision to let him play.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will miss Saturday's exhibition game at Baltimore because of a concussion, reversing an earlier decision to let him play.

In a statement released Friday by the Redskins, NFL independent neurologist Robert Kurtzke said Griffin "should be held from game play this weekend and be retested in one (to) two weeks before a firm conclusion to return to game play can be made."

Griffin left last week's exhibition game against Detroit with a concussion.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since the game against Detroit, Griffin evaded questions Thursday about when - or even if - he sustained a concussion in that game.

Griffin is 6 for 13 for 44 yards in two appearances, and the Redskins have not scored a touchdown with him on the field.

Chiefs, Titans injuries

Kansas City wide receiver Albert Wilson hurt his shoulder and Tennessee safety Da'Norris Searcy hurt his knee in the opening quarter of their preseason game in Kansas City that was called off because of lightning with 3:50 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Chiefs leading, 34-10.

The Titans were already playing without three defensive starters. Defensive end DaQuan Jones has a bruised leg, nose tackle Sammie Hill has a sprained knee and cornerback Jason McCourty is working his way back from a groin injury. The Chiefs were without left tackle Eric Fisher (ankle) and right guard Jeff Allen (knee) for the second straight preseason game.

Peterson to sit Saturday

Minnesota's Adrian Peterson will be on the sideline when the Vikings play in Dallas on Saturday. Several high-profile players have been hurt around the NFL this month in preseason games, so the team is being cautious with the franchise running back. The Vikings open the season Sept. 14 at San Francisco, 372 days after Peterson last played a game. He was held out of action last year while the child abuse case against him that involved his son played out.

Hunter charges reduced

The felony charge against Tennessee Titans wide receiver Justin Hunter has been reduced to a misdemeanor count of assault and battery. Hunter had been facing a felony charge of malicious wounding stemming from a fight at a bar in Virginia Beach's oceanfront resort area during the July Fourth weekend. The case will go to trial on the misdemeanor charge Tuesday.
