Power surge pushes Mets over Nats

Curtis Granderson, Daniel Murphy, and Lucas Duda all homered in a five-run fifth inning and Noah Syndergaard pitched eight strong innings to lift the New York Mets over the Washington Nationals at Citi Field on Sunday night.

The victory completed a three-game sweep and put the Mets in a virtual tie with the Nationals for first place in the NL East.

Dodgers 5, Angels 3 - Andre Ethier hit his second dramatic home run in three innings, a two-run shot in the 10th to lead Los Angeles to a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium.

Rangers 2, Giants 1 - Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer and Martin Perez allowed two hits to earn his first win in his comeback from Tommy John surgery as host Texas edged San Francisco.

Cubs 4, Brewers 3 - Closer Hector Rondon nearly squandered a three-run lead, but Chicago held on to complete a four-game sweep in Milwaukee.

Astros 4, Diamondbacks 1 - Collin McHugh threw seven solid innings, and Carlos Gomez delivered a two-run, go-ahead single as Houston beat visiting Arizona.

Pirates 3, Reds 0 - Charlie Morton pitched five-hit ball for seven innings and Pittsburgh won in Cincinnati.

Marlins 5, Padres 2 - Adeiny Hechavarria hit a three-run home run off Brandon Maurer with one out in the ninth inning, and host Miami topped San Diego.

A's 2, Indians 1 - Mark Canha hit a two-out double in the 10th inning to drive in Sam Fuld and lift Oakland past visiting Cleveland.

Yankees 12, White Sox 3 - Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira homered against Jeff Samardzija, and New York romped in Chicago.

Mariners 4, Twins 1 - Logan Morrison's RBI double in the 11th inning broke the tie and Austin Jackson added a two-run double as Seattle won in Minnesota.

Rays 4, Red Sox 3 - Asdrubal Cabrera had a game-tying RBI double and scored on James Loney's single in the eighth inning as Tampa Bay edged host Boston.

Blue Jays 5, Royals 2 - Chris Colabello hit a two-run homer and host Toronto beat Kansas City.

Tigers 6, Orioles 1 - Daniel Norris took a three-hitter into the eighth inning, J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer, and Detroit won in Baltimore.
