Chambers-Berto opening act in Showtime's boxing tripleheader

Steve Upsher Chambers takes on Andre Berto in first matchup of network's three-bout telecast.

PHILADELPHIA-BASED welterweight Steve Upsher Chambers fights former world champion Andre Berto tomorrow night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati in the first matchup of Showtime's three-bout telecast.

The broadcast is set to start at 9:25 p.m., with the opening fight starting shortly afterward and leading into a light-welterweight bout featuring Lucas Matthysse against Roberto Ortiz and the super-lightweight main event, Adrien Broner vs. Emmanuel Taylor.

Chambers (24-3-1, 6 knockouts) is on a two-fight losing streak, most recently falling to Eddie Gomez in August 2013. The 29-year-old has been a pro since 2003 and from June 2004 to April 2012 was undefeated in 21 consecutive bouts, mostly held at the Blue Horizon.

Berto (28-3, 22 KOs), who turns 31 on Sunday, is the former WBC and IBF welterweight champ. He also has lost his last two fights but hasn't fought in 14 months after surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.
