The Eagles traded nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga to the New England Patriots before Tuesday's trade deadline. Sopaoga was packaged with a sixth-round pick for a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Sopoaga, 32, was signed in the offseason to be the team's starting nose tackle. He played eight games, had 18 tackles, and played 39 percent of the defensive snaps. Sopoaga made $3.25 million from the Eagles, including a $2.75 million signing bonus and half of his $1 million salary.

Considering the output and the expense, Sopoaga's signing did not work out for the Eagles. He played solely on running downs and quickly became expendable.

The Eagles will turn to young defensive linemen Bennie Logan, Clifton Geathers, Vinny Curry, and Damion Square to join Fletcher Cox and Cedric Thornton on the defensive line. Thornton, Logan, Geathers, and Square can all play nose tackle. The average age of the defensive linemen is 24.

Curry also was made available to teams before the deadline, according to NFL sources. A team source said that the Eagles were only taking calls from teams interested in Curry. Another source said the Eagles wanted to keep Curry despite offers.

Curry, a second-round draft pick, was inactive for the first two weeks of the season. His playing time increased in each of the next five games but decreased to 12 snaps in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants.

There are 52 players on the 53-man active roster. The team did not make another move Tuesday.

Extra points

Running back Chris Polk (shoulder), linebacker Casey Matthews (hip), linebacker Jake Knott (hamstring), and wide receiver Damaris Johnson (unknown injury) did not practice. The team is not required to give an injury report on Tuesdays.
