Source: Birds pursued Moss

Turns out the Eagles are interested in acquiring a No. 1 wide receiver after all.

Randy Moss and Eagles coach Andy Reid spoke extensively today about the possibility of Moss coming to the Birds, a source close to the situation told the Daily News.

The source contended that the Eagles offered Moss more money than the $27 million over 3 years that he reportedly accepted to remain with the New England Patriots.

Moss confirmed the deal on his Web site, therealrandymoss.com, and the Patriots followed with a statement.

"I want to take time out to thank all of the fans for their support and for wishing me well in my return to New England," Moss is quoted as saying on the site. "I'm ready to get back. We have some unfinished business to take care of."

Said Patriots coach Bill Belichick in a statement: ."What Randy did for our team last year was outstanding. He is one of our most consistent, competitive and team-oriented players and it is undoubtedly a relationship we are excited to continue."

Moss had 98 receptions for 1,493 yards and a league-record 23 touchdown catches last season as the Patriots reached the Super Bowl.
