Letters: Camden Diocese stands up for national anthem

I am not a Catholic, but I am proud of the Camden Diocese for declaring a two-game ban for any player or coach on a high school sports team who doesn't "demonstrate appropriate respect" during the national anthem ("Camden diocese takes anthem stand," Sept. 13). Finally, somebody has the fortitude to stand up for the anthem; the diocese is to be commended.

Camden Diocese takes stand with ban

I am not a Catholic, but I am proud of the Camden Diocese for declaring a two-game ban for any player or coach on a high school sports team who doesn't "demonstrate appropriate respect" during the national anthem ("Camden diocese takes anthem stand," Sept. 13). Finally, somebody has the fortitude to stand up for the anthem; the diocese is to be commended.

It's a disgrace that no one in the public-school system has the diocese's courage.

As one of the few remaining World War II veterans from Camden, I was appalled by the coach and players at Woodrow Wilson High School who refused to stand before their Sept. 10 season opener. The saddest part is that some Americans agree with this disrespect.

How low is America sinking?
