Dolores Dulany Kendrick, 76, whose dream of owning a business was realized when she and her husband opened a pool hall in West Philadelphia's Wynnefield section, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, after a battle with lung cancer.

Mrs. Kendrick was born on Oct. 3, 1940, and grew up in South Philadelphia. She was a mother of three children when she married Thomas Kendrick in 1965.

After moving to the Wynnefield section, Mrs. Kendrick and her husband opened two businesses under the name Tom & Dee's Pool Hall, at 1811 N. 5th St. and at 5350 W. Montgomery Ave., said Mrs. Kendrick's granddaughter Natasha Kendrick.

The pool halls were neighborhood gathering places where Mrs. Kendrick was known for her good humor and kindness, Natasha Kendrick said. They were open from around 1976 to 1987.

Her large family was a source of warmth and comfort after the sudden death of her husband in 1998, said Natasha Kendrick.

Mrs. Kendrick is survived by her daughters Eleonora Dulaney; Robin "Bobbi" Booker, a lifestyle reporter at the Philadelphia Tribune and a WRTI-FM Radio host; and Nicole Kendrick; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be held at the Robert Walker Funeral Home, 228 S. 53rd St. The viewing will be Friday, Sept. 22, from 9-11 a.m., with services directly after.
