Services set for Joni Sledge of 'We Are Family'

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, for Joni Sledge, 60, a member of the Philadelphia singing group, Sister Sledge, who died Friday, March 10, at her home in Phoenix, Ariz.

The service is set for 9 a.m. at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave., Philadelphia. Interment will follow in Ivy Hill Cemetery.

Born in Philadelphia, Ms. Sledge earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Temple University. Some of her favorite activities in Philadelphia were playing tennis at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Camp, participating in theater, and mastering foreign languages, her family said.

After graduating from Temple University, she performed with her sisters, first at churches and venues in the Philadelphia area, and later throughout the world. The sisters' best-known song is the dance anthem, "We Are Family."
