Frank Quinton, 86, of Gloucester City, a 22-year veteran of work at what was the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, died at home Saturday, Jan. 23, of complications after a seizure.

Mr. Quinton and his wife of 65 years, Anna, knew each other "from the time they were young teenagers," said daughter Virginia James. Growing up in the same Camden neighborhood, she said, "they were never with anybody else."

One day, Anna happened to be walking home with a friend and Mr. Quinton happened to join them.

After he had gone on, "My mom said, 'Who's that?'

"My aunt said, 'That's my brother.' And Anna said, 'He's cute.' And that was it."

Mr. Quinton, his daughter said, "was a private guy who loved being home."

Born in Camden, Mr. Quinton graduated in 1947 from Camden City High School and served in the Army from 1951 to 1957, some of that time in West Germany.

"He loved Germany," his daughter said. At times, "he would just say he would go back to Germany, and we would all laugh."

In the 1960s and the 1970s at the shipyard, he was first a journeyman machinist and then a quality control specialist.

Then, in the 1980s and 1990s, he was an assistant purchasing agent for the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority.

He was a member of the Townsend C. Young VFW post in Gloucester City.

Besides his daughter Virginia James, Mr. Quinton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna; sons Frank III and Joseph; daughters Anna Summers, Kathleen Koc, Barbara Creato, Janice Nichols, Patricia Underwood, Judith Arthur, and Carolyn Monteleone; 28 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

A visitation was set from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at St. Mary's Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, before an 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass there. Interment with military honors was set for New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, the same day.

Donations may be sent to St. Mary's Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, N.J. 08030 or Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice, Suite 300, Five Eves Drive, Marlton, N.J. 08053.
