Martin F. Taylor Jr., 92, father of Pennsylvania State Rep. John Taylor, died Saturday of complications from multiple strokes at his home in the Northwood section of Northeast Philadelphia.

A 1929 graduate of St. Ann's Elementary School, Mr. Taylor worked in the Allegheny National Forest in Northwest Pennsylvania for the Civilian Conservation Corps from May 1934 to June 1935.

From 1936 to 1950, he worked at the Philadelphia Wool Scouring Co. at Glenwood and Castor Avenues, interrupted by Navy service during World War II.

He served on supply ships in the Pacific.

In civilian life he was a warehouseman, his son said, and "the major part of his career was at the Philadelphia Drug House, a wholesaler, which ended up being Drug House Inc." at 10th and Butler Streets. After retiring from there in 1975, his son said, Mr. Taylor was a courier with the Girard Bank.

A longtime member of Teamsters Local 169, his son said, Mr. Taylor in 1954 founded the credit union of St. Hugh Church, which is now the American Heritage Federal Credit Union.

Besides his son John, Mr. Taylor is survived by son Martin F. 3d; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Devlin. His wife, Gladys, died in 1998.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at Mother of Divine Grace Church, Thompson and Cambria Streets, Port Richmond.

Burial will be in New Cathedral Cemetery.
