Robert L. Daly, 79, formerly of Chadds Ford, a retired Scott Paper Co. executive, died of cancer Monday at Shannondell, a retirement community in Audubon.

Mr. Daly was a star football player at Middletown High School in Connecticut and was a member of the 1945 all-state team. After graduating, he served in the Marine Corps in Quantico, Va., and played football at the U.S. Naval Academy for a semester. He then transferred to Temple University, where was a captain of the football team his senior year.

After earning a bachelor's degree in 1952, he joined the sales department of Scott Paper Co. and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Carolyn Anderson. He retired as Scott's director of human resources and training in 1986.

Mr. Daly volunteered with Media Meals on Wheels, tutored English as a second language in Chester, and volunteered at the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester.

He was a fan of the lacrosse and field hockey teams of Gettysburg College, where his daughter, Carol Cantele, is the coach.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Daly is survived by daughters Chris Scanzaroli and Kim; a son, Bob; and four grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1260 S. Trooper Rd., Norristown. Friends may call at 10 a.m.
