Childhood literacy issues enter mayoral race

"Nothing is more important to the future of this city, and the nation, than a well-educated population," Lynne Abraham said.

Nelson Diaz also said that improving education ranked at the top of his list, adding that parental involvement in literacy issues is key.

Milton Street expressed concerns over the campaign's reach. "I believe early literacy is really important," he said. "We have a situation where we don't have programs that are all-inclusive. Is this a program that has the capacity to touch all 4th graders, or will it touch a percentage?"
