Teachers' union to endorse Kenney for mayor

THE Philadelphia Federation of Teachers will formally endorse Jim Kenney for mayor today, the union said yesterday.

PFT president Jerry Jordan and Kenney are expected to make the announcement at John B. Kelley School, on Pulaski Avenue near Hansberry Street, in Germantown.

"PFT members voted overwhelmingly for Jim Kenney in our citywide referendum," Jordan said in an email statement.

"His years of consistent support for traditional public schools and educators, and his vision for a better Philadelphia for every child, make him the clear choice to be the next mayor of Philadelphia," he added.

Sources told the Daily News that Kenney overwhelmingly won the mayoral-candidate referendum, a weeklong voting process for members that ended Wednesday afternoon.

Former District Attorney Lynne Abraham came in second and former Common Pleas Judge Nelson Diaz placed third in the referendum, PFT sources said.
