Corbett nominates five for judgeships
Gov. Corbett announced Friday five nominations to fill vacancies in Common Pleas Court in Philadelphia and Delaware County. The governor also recommended two replacements for openings in Philadelphia Municipal Court and one nomination for Magisterial District Judge in Bucks County.

The governor also recommended two replacements for openings in Philadelphia Municipal Court and one nomination for Magisterial District Judge in Bucks County.
The nominees will fill court vacancies and must be approved by the Senate within 25 session days. They will serve temporarily until the next election cycle in 2015.
In Philadelphia, Corbett has nominated for Common Pleas Court Abbe F. Fletman, Kenneth J. Powell Jr., Michael Fanning and Vincent N. Melchiorre.
Fletman is a partner and litigator at Flaster Greenberg, who specializes in complex litigation and commercial disputes. She represented the Philadelphia Housing Authority in a 2008 lawsuit over funding against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Powell was a former Common Pleas judge whose term expired in December 2013. A Republican, he was defeated in his re-election attempt.
Fanning ran for an open seat in Common Pleas Court in 2011, but lost the Democratic primary.
Melchiorre is a trial attorney who specializes in civil litigation. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the Democratic primary for Common Pleas Court in April 2013.
In Philadelphia Municipal Court, Corbett nominated Stephanie Sawyer, who was a candidate for Common Pleas Court in 2011 and 2013; and Roger F. Gordon, who had been selected once before by Corbett to fill a Common Pleas Court vacancy.
In Delaware County, Corbett tapped Anthony D. Scanlon, of Springfield, a magisterial district judge to fill a vacancy in the Court of Common Pleas.
And in Bucks County, the governor selected Regina M. Armitage, of Chalfont, an open records officer for the county, to fill a vacancy in magisterial district court.
