Former State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo, who served four years in prison in a massive political corruption case, has filed a statement of resignation from the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The longtime Philadelphia political boss was formally disbarred retroactive to 2010.

In 2009, Fumo, once one of the most powerful Democrats in the state, was convicted of all counts in a federal indictment charging him with a $4.3 million ripoff of the Senate and two Philadelphia nonprofits. He lost his law license and his state pension, and was sent to prison in Ashland, Ky. He was released in August. - Vernon Clark
