The most Philly tailgating moments at the Eagles season opener

Tailgating is an art in Philadelphia and Thursday night's Eagles season opener brought out some of the city's best virtuosos.

Like any good piece of art, not everybody is going to understand these tailgating masterpieces but we won't hold that against you, Falcons fans. Here are some of the best from the Eagles-Falcons game.

Saving shoveled-out parking spots with chairs or orange cones following a snowstorm is a longstanding Philly tradition, one that Philadelphia police have railed against with their epic #NoSavesies campaigns on social media.

But since the Eagles won the Super Bowl, savesies aren't just for winter anymore.

NBC Sports Philadelphia tweeted out a picture at 10 a.m. Thursday — three hours before the stadium complex opened and 11 hours before the thunderstorm-delayed game ended up starting — of two spots in one of the parking lots savesied with folding chairs.

We're awaiting Philly Police's response and next social media campaign, "Tailgating savesies is for the Birds."

Philadelphia has a long history with the dramatic arts, from the Walnut Street Theatre, Ameria's oldest playhouse, to the Barrymore Awards, which honor excellence in Philadelphia theatrical performances.

Well, we got your next Barrymore Award winner right here, Philly:

That is a man — a thespian some might say — who dressed up like Jason Kelce, memorized his epic Super Bowl parade speech and then performed it on the bed of a pickup truck at the Thursday's tailgate to thunderous applause.

Philly Philly!

I mean this dude even brought a supporting cast to his show. Look at that Chris Long!

Several unconfirmed reports said this was the work of the Eagles podcast 4th and Jawn and that the Kelce actor we're all going to nominate for a Barrymore is a man who goes by @moviesontherox on Twitter, describing himself as an actor, an Eagles fan, and a pancakes expert.

In Philadelphia no sporting event is truly complete unless someone burns something down or climbs a pole. We've not yet found evidence of any pole ascensions at Thursday's tailgating, but this video of a burning "0 Super Bowls" Eagles jersey is making the rounds.

Legend has it that back in the day when Philly didn't have any Super Bowl titles, a New York Giants fan had a custom Eagles jersey made with SUPERBOWLS and 0 printed on the back — and he wore it for 13 years.

According to NorthJersey.com, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, that Giants' fan auctioned the jersey off on GoFundMe and Eagles fans raised $10,000 for it, which was donated to charity. The ceremonial burning of the jersey also took place at 4th and Jawn's tailgate Thursday.

NBC Sports sent correspondents to the game to try and find the best tailgate and they discovered two grown men sitting in the bed of a pickup truck in a blow-up pool one of them stole from their kid.

While that sounds pretty Philly, these guys were actually from Marlton, N.J., and claimed they had filled the pool in Jersey and drove with it across state lines.

The NBC Sports reporters also found the upstanding citizen who purchased the Eagles-themed bus from the 2012 movie, Silver Linings Playbook, after reading it was up for sale on Craigslist in the Inquirer.

The last two ultra-Philly moments from the tailgates floating around social media are so Philly we can't embed them in this jawn.

First is Pope Iggle — a man wearing an epic Eagles pope hat and carrying a staff topped with a cross. Instead of handing out communion, Pope Iggle hands out beer bongs. As he does so, he does not claim that the liquid therein is the blood of Christ, but he does declare it the bodily fluid of Carson Wentz. And we're going to prematurely end it there.

Second is an Eagles fan who appears to have taken the most widely repeated chant of Super Bowl night and turned it into a diorama involving a casket, a picture of Tom Brady and a blow-up item from the kind of store you can only go into if you're above age 18.

Listen Iggles fans, you've really set the bar high here. Just like our Super Bowl champions, you're going to have to bring it even harder the rest of the year. I mean the Brits are already expecting you to show them what tailgating is all about in October when the Birds travel to England.
