2 dead in separate Philadelphia fires

The deadly fires occurred Tuesday in West Philadelphia and North Philadelphia.

Two people have been found dead following separate fires less than 12 hours apart in Philadelphia.

The first blaze was reported about 9 10 a.m. Tuesday in a two-story rowhouse on the 2400 block of North Newkirk Street in North Philadelphia, the Fire Department said.

Firefighters found one person dead and two others were taken to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy to learn the cause of death.

The Fire Department does not release information about fire victims but Rodney Corbitt, a neighborhood resident, told 6ABC  the person who died was an elderly woman who required help getting around.

About 8:40 a.m., firefighters responded to 5300 block of Race Street in West Philadelphia, where they found heavy fire on the first floor of a two-story rowhouse, officials said. The fire was placed under control at 9:12 p.m.

Firefighters found one person dead.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy to learn the cause of death.
