A one-vehicle crash in Chester County left one person dead and two severely injured Friday night, state police said.

A news release from the Avondale barracks said Phillip E. Tomsic, 21, of Grand Junction, Mich., lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Impala on Ashmun Avenue in Lower Oxford Township at 9:35 p.m. He had been traveling southeast when he crossed the northbound lane near Dickey Lane and struck a tree, the release said.

The vehicle caught fire, and one of the two passengers, Anthony V. Washington, 21, of Forest Hills, N.Y., was pronounced dead at the scene. Tomsic and his other passenger, Kadeem Fulmore, 21, of Rochester, N.Y., were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for "major injuries," the release said. A hospital spokesman said Saturday that both remained in critical condition.
