BEACH HAVEN, N.J. - A fisherman who called his mother to report his 16-foot boat was sinking died a short time later after he was found unconscious in Barnegat Bay.

Alan Olivier, 55, was pulled from the water by a good Samaritan around 11:45 a.m. Friday and transferred to a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, state police said. He was taken to the Beach Haven Yacht Club, where emergency personnel could not revive him. He was pronounced dead at 12:50 p.m.

The cause of death had not been determined, and further personal information about Olivier was not disclosed yesterday.

The Coast Guard and state police rescue crews were dispatched to the area after Olivier's mother called 911 and reported his approximate location. It was not clear what had caused the boat to sink. - AP
