White horse removed from White Horse Pike

The white horse has been removed from White Horse Pike.

The iconic statue that sat on a tower at the Historic Lawnside Village shopping center on White Horse Pike has been taken down and is headed to storage indefinitely.

"Right now it's going into storage until they decide what they want to do with it," Bob Thackray, whose Thackray Crane Rental company removed the horse, told the Cherry Hill Courier Post.

Thackray said he didn't know what Vornado Realty Trust, the firm that owns the shopping center, plans to do with the horse.

Lawnside administrator Jay Todd told the newspaper that borough officials contacted Vornado about the horse after receiving a complaint that the structure was unsafe.

One of the horse's legs was reported to have appeared to be unstable.

In an email this morning, Todd referred questions about the statue to Vornado. A spokesman for the company couldn't immediately be reached.

The longtime fixture was taken down last week.
