A body that washed ashore in Ocean City this morning has been identified as missing boat captain David McAuliffe.

The cause of death was accidental drowning, an autopsy found. The body, discovered by Ocean City Public Works employees, had been turned over to the Cape May County Medical Examiner's office.

McAuliffe, 34, disappeared when his Sea Tow boat, the Cape Hatteras, sank near the Great Egg Harbor Inlet on April 23.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched for McAuliffe for two days.

The 49-foot-long boat was found upside down and partly buried in sand on Thursday night, and authorities managed to raise it on Sunday, according to reports.
