Man charged in fatal Cape May County shooting

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that killed a Cape May County man Thursday night.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that killed a Cape May County man Thursday night.

Xavier Geisinger, 20, of Dennisville, is charged with murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses, state police said in a news release.

Geisinger became involved in an argument with 41-year-old Damien Fashaw shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday outside Fashaw's home on the 300 block of Jefferson Street in Woodbine, according to investigators.

About 20 minutes later, witnesses heard a gunshot, and Fashaw was found lying in the street, police said. He was taken to Shore Memorial Hospital, where he died around 10:30 p.m.

The Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office ruled Fashaw's death a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound.

Detectives executed a search warrant on Fashaw's car and seized evidence related to the investigation, police said.

Geisinger was located at his grandparents' home and later taken to the state police Woodbine Station, where he was formally charged Friday.

"Because of the work of our investigators, a suspected murderer was taken off of the streets in less than 24 hours," Rick Fuentes, superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, said in a statement commending law enforcement efforts.

Geisinger remained imprisoned Saturday at the Cape May County Jail in lieu of $750,000 full cash bail.
