A Gibbsboro man was the victim of an attempted robbery at the Moorestown Mall Tuesday night in a Craigslist sale gone wrong, police said.

The victim, 43, responded to a post on the site advertising a new iPhone 5c for sale for $275, according to investigators.

When the man met the supposed seller at the mall, the suspect refused to hand over the phone but demanded the cash at knifepoint, police said. The victim was not injured and was able to get away without losing his money.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-7-inch tall black male wearing a black baseball cap, a black t-shirt and tan cargo shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Moorestown detectives by calling 856-914-3092 or emailing detectives@moorestownpd.com.

Moorestown police, in a news release, warned that similar crimes are becoming more prevalent and cautioned would-be Craigslist buyers to be careful when arranging transactions through the site.
