Police: Man impersonated officer while buying ski mask in Camden

A man allegedly impersonated a police officer inside the New York mini market on Kaighn Avenue in Camden, N.J.

Authorities are looking for a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer inside a Camden corner store Wednesday night.

Surveillance cameras captured the suspect walking into the New York mini market on Kaighn Avenue around 7 p.m.

Inside, he lifted his shirt, flashing an undershirt with "police" written on the front and a handgun tucked in his waistband, according to investigators.

The man then told an employee he was an undercover police officer and asked to purchase a ski mask, police said.

He is described as a black male, last seen wearing a navy blue #40 Chicago Bears football jersey with orange stripes on the arms and "Sayers" written on the back. He is known to frequent the area of Thurman and Newport streets, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Camden County Police Department tip line at 856-757-7042.
