500G jewelry smash-and-grab at Atlantic City's Borgata

A trio of thieves orchestrated a $500,000 smash-and-grab robbery last night of a jewelry store at the Borgata in Atlantic City last night, according to news accounts.

The heist occured in the Borgata Hotel amid the casino's 10th anniversary celebration.   Police said Borgata security called police at 8:45 p.m. to report the theft in a jewelry store. Police said the three men, who appeared to be unarmed, fled on foot before taking off in a dark colored vehicle.

No arrests have been made and no other information was immediately available.

The Borgata opened July 2, 2003, as the first new casino in the resort town in 13 years. It has 11 retail shops, 2,000 guest rooms and suites, nearly 200 gambling tables and more than 3,400 slot machines.
