Atlantic County woman charged in 7-month-old's death

An Atlantic County woman has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of her 7-month-old daughter, authorities said Tuesday.

Lisa M. Scalia, 32, was on drugs and rolled onto the girl Jan. 3 at their Ventnor home in the 5700 block of Monmouth Avenue, police said. The girl, whom authorities have not named, was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, where she died Jan. 8.

In addition to aggravated manslaughter, Scalia has also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of controlled dangerous substances. Authorities said she had Suboxone, oxycodone, heroin, and Lyrica.
