Mom, boyfriend charged in death of 2-year-old girl

A Gloucester City woman and her boyfriend have been charged in the death of her 2-year-old daughter. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said the girl died at Cooper University Hospital on Tuesday evening, 48 hours after her mother called 911 for an ambulance to be sent to her home on the 100 block of South King Street.

A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and said the cause was blunt-force trauma to the head.

Michael Disporto Jr., 22, of Manahawkin, has been charged with murder and first-degree aggravated sexual assault, officials said.

The girl's mother, Amber Bobo, 26, has been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Bobo told investigators that she had been dating Disporto for about two weeks, according to court documents. The girl's injuries apparently happened after Bobo picked up the child, identified in the documents only as A.S., from the girl's father in Cape May County the evening of July 2.

That night, Disporto asked to take the child to a nearby park because "he wanted to get to know her better," court documents said.

After they returned, Disporto put the toddler to bed. The next morning, the girl wasn't in the bed where she usually slept with her mother, and Bobo found her apparently sleeping on the living-room couch, where Disporto had spent the night, according to the documents.

Bobo saw bruises on her daughter's forehead and asked Disporto about them, according to the documents, and he first said he didn't know anything and later told Bobo the toddler fell at the park.

Later in the morning, according to the documents, Bobo noticed bruises on the child's back and genitals, and Disporto allegedly discouraged her from taking the girl to a hospital.

In the afternoon, the toddler began vomiting, both at the Deptford Mall and again when the trio returned home, the documents said.

When Bobo called 911 that evening, the girl was unresponsive. Doctors found bleeding in her brain, bruised genitals, a broken arm, and lung contusions.
