2 officers hit in shoot-out still in critical condition

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Law enforcement authorities yesterday maintained a hospital vigil and closely monitored the status of two critically wounded Jersey City police officers.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Law enforcement authorities yesterday maintained a hospital vigil and closely monitored the status of two critically wounded Jersey City police officers.

Marc DiNardo and Michael Camacho were among several officers wounded Thursday in a shoot-out that left two armed-robbery suspects dead. Hassan Shakur opened fire on the officers with a tactical shotgun from five feet away, authorities said, as police smashed his apartment door with a battering ram.

DiNardo and Camacho remained in critical but stable condition at Jersey City Medical Center.

Shakur, 32, and Amanda Anderson, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene Thursday. They were wanted in connection with a June 18 armed robbery in Jersey City, where a man was shot in the stomach with the same shotgun, and they were suspected of a similar robbery in South Carolina. - AP
