Powerball jackpot biggest in 6 months
Mega Millions trails, but topped $100 million.
Powerball's jackpot, which has been growing since late last year, rose to nearly a quarter-billion dollars when no one matched all the numbers Wednesday night.
They were 8, 17, 32, 57 and 59, with a Powerball of 24.
A South Carolina ticket won $2 million for matching the first five while having the Power Play prize-boosting option. Tickets in Illinois and Minnesota won $1 million each for matching the first five without the Power Play.
The annuity for Saturday's drawing will be worth an estimated $247 million, with the cash payout worth $142.5 million.
It's the biggest annuity since August, when the jackpot reached $448.4 million. Two New Jersey winners and one in Minnesota split the $258 milllion cash.
That annuity jackpot is No. 5 on the all-time U.S. list.
Mega Millions. The jackpots rose to $107 million for the annuity and $59 million for the cash when no one matched all of Tuesday night's numbers -- 25, 44, 49, 60 and 73 -- but not the Mega Ball, which came up 9. The biggest winner was a California ticket that matched the first five numbers, winning $910,781 under that state's pari-mutuel system.
The next drawing is Friday night.
