Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting in Burlington City

A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday for a shooting last year in Burlington City that left a bystander dead. Samuel James, of Burlington City, must serve 30 years in prison without parole as part of his plea deal.

A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday for a shooting last year in Burlington City that left a bystander dead, prosecutors said.

Samuel James, of Burlington City, must serve 30 years in prison without parole as part of his plea deal, said Burlington County Prosecutor Scott A. Coffina.

James admitted firing several shots into a group of people in the 100 block of East Federal Street on Aug. 20. A bullet struck Byron Turner, 24, in the head.

Turner, of Burlington City, was pronounced dead several hours later at Cooper Uniervsity Hospital in Camden.

James, who is being held at Burlington County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
