A woman was sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint Sunday evening at an abandoned pier known for its graffiti in the city's Port Richmond section, police said.

Two women and a man in their 20s were walking through what some call the "graffiti pier," a former Conrail coal pier on the Delaware River, near Cumberland and Beach Streets about 6:30 p.m. when they encountered the suspect, police said. The man engaged them in conversation, then pulled out a gun and demanded their valuables. He directed them to a secluded area and took the victims' phones, wallets, identification cards, and cash. He sexually assaulted one of the women and then fled.

The assailant is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s, with short brown hair and a scruffy beard, with a tattoo, possibly of a star, on his left arm. He was wearing a white Phillies cap, a white T-shirt, and jean shorts. Anyone with information on the crime can call the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251. - Robert Moran
